(6/7/17) City of Fremantle statement regarding violent assault on parking officer

Late yesterday afternoon a member of our parking team was injured as he went about his work on William Street in Fremantle.

He was taken to hospital and thankfully has been discharged to recover from his injuries at home, which include severe bruising to his legs.

We understand police have apprehended a man in relation to this incident, which appears to have been a deliberate, violent and cowardly assault using a vehicle as a weapon.

The City of Fremantle will not tolerate any type of violence against our staff and will continue to provide assistance to police to ensure the offender is brought to justice.

Our primary concern is for the welfare of a fellow employee and ensuring he and his family, as well as his colleagues are well supported through what would have been a frightening experience.

We’d like to thank the police, ambulance services and members of the public at the scene for their quick response yesterday.

We ask the media respects our colleague’s wishes of being left alone to rest and recover from what was a very traumatic experience for him.
