City saves popular school holiday cooking classes

THE chef remains the same, as does the menu and the fun, the only thing different about Fremantle’s school holiday cooking program formerly at World of Energy, is the venue.

The City of Fremantle has stepped in to save Kids in the Kitchen after World of Energy closed earlier this year. So the Town Hall kitchen will throw open its doors to budding Jamies (as in Oliver) and Nigelas (as in Lawson) for three classes daily at 10, 12 and 2pm on April 20, 21 and 23.

Lead by Chef Dale Sniffen it’s part of the City of Fremantle’s huge school holiday program in and around Kings Square over the April school holidays.

Other activities include five minutes of pretend-fame for a photo in a stretch Hummer, tiny tots tennis, tea with Alice in Wonderland and beading for beginners.

Mayor Peter Tagliaferri says while the City was unsuccessful is putting up an acceptable rescue bid for Western Power’s World of Energy, it had managed to keep the cooking classes alive for the kids.

“Kids love cooking and we’re really pleased to be able to incorporate Kids in the Kitchen in our school holiday program.

“There are loads of thing for youngsters to do in Fremantle and it will be easy some days to come in and spend the whole day on two or three organised activities at very minimal cost.”
