MEDIA RELEASE: 8 APRIL 2009
FREMANTLE STREET ARTS FESTIVAL 2009
LAUNCHED TO THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE
|
“The Festival launch last night was absolutely sensational. It points to this year’s festival being absolutely unmissable for anyone who loves to be entertained in ways that are very much out of the ordinary. There has never been a better time to head down to Fremantle than the long-weekend and we hope to see you on the streets over Easter.” – Mayor Fremantle Peter Tagliaferri.
As the sun set across Fishing Boat Harbour over 100 guests including Councilors, sponsors and performers wandered past the newly created Pitch Sculptures and up the stairs to the home of the Festival Club - Little Creatures Loft.
Whilst enjoying divine food reflective of Fremantle’s eclectic culture, Little Creatures Beers and Howling Wolves Wines guests were captured by Caricaturist Jeremy Goodchild and charmed by Indian mystic Jardu with his snake. Only a few guests discovered they had hidden tendencies towards Ophidiophobia
The spectacular voice of operatic sensation Fiona Mariah filled the room and mellowed the crowd. And then, direct from LA the incredible hip-hop comedy dance duo - BlackStreet Boyz. Luring Evenstcorp Executive Director David Van Orran onto the stage to share the moment, the audience was left gob smacked and with no doubt that this man has hip-hop in his soul.
President of the Events Industry Association Jenny Harrington said “It’s clear that the Fremantle Street Arts Festival has undergone significant growth this year but the positive energy remains. If the quality of entertainment showcased at last night’s launch function is any indication of what can be seen over the weekend, the festival is definitely a must-see event!”
