Many strings to Fremantle’s bow during Winter

FREMANTLE will be alive with the sound of music during the Winter Strings Festival with players from across Australia and the world tuning-up ready to entertain starting this Wednesday.

There will be a three-tiered approach to the event which evolved out of the Australian Strings Association’s (AUSTA) National Conference (July 9-13). Besides the conference itself there’ll be performances by duos and trios throughout Fremantle’s eateries during the Café Series (June 24 – July 8) and industry-specific workshops and health lifestyle tips handed out to musicians during the Flow Seminar (July 9).

German violinist and psychologist Andreas Burzik, will be keynote speaker at the conference where he will present six sessions on flow psychology and its benefits to musicians.

He will discuss how practising in the “flow” style combines precise listening and physical connection to the instrument with a playful and improvisational approach to study material.

Burzik will also present a special one–day seminar on July 9, for non–string playing musicians, psychologists and the general public.

The AUSTA conference will feature concerts, lectures, workshops, a luthier’s exhibition as well as give instrumentalists an opportunity to network and socialise plus it will look at musician health and wellbeing (particularly in the areas of posture and repetitive strain injury) and provide a forum and trade stalls.

There will be international and national presenters as well as workshops, master classes, concerts, demonstrations, trade displays and more.
