Privacy Statement

The City of Fremantle is committed to full compliance with the obligations and requirements of the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing legislation (‘PRIS’), the Freedom of Information Act 1992, and the Privacy Act 1988.

This statement explains how the City collect, hold, use and disclose personal information through our programs, services, communications and website.

Definitions

  • it is necessary for the City’s functions or activities;

  • the collection is authorised or required by law; or
  • the collection is necessary to prevent or lessen a serious threat to life, health, safety or welfare of any individual (including in family violence contexts).

You may remain anonymous yourself when engaging with the City, unless required by law or to do so is impracticable in relation to the matter, in accordance with part 7 of the Privacy Policy.

You have the right to access personal information held by the City of Fremantle and request correction if the data is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date.

The website may also include links to external sites or third-party tools. If you select to use those functions, the information you provide will be subject to the privacy practices of those third-party organisations.

The City collects and shares information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Information Classification Labels

The City of Fremantle use Information Classification Labels on our documents, emails, and other records. This assists identification of whether personal information or sensitive corporate information is contained within the record. The labels the City of Fremantle use include OFFICIAL, OFFICIAL Sensitive, and OFFICIAL Sensitive Legal.

Cookies & website analytics

When you visit the City’s website, our internet service provider automatically records your visit and logs the following information for statistical purposes:

  • your internet provider (IP) address
  • your top level domain name (e.g. .com, .net, .gov ,etc.)
  • the date and time of your visit to the site
  • the pages accessed and documents downloaded
  • time spent on individual pages
  • time spent overall on the site

  • referring site (e.g. search engine).

This information is analysed regularly to determine the website’s usage statistics.

No attempt will be made to identify you or your browsing activities unless required by law, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect our service provider’s logs.

Where you have provided your email address and other personal information to subscribe to a City of Fremantle service, all details will be used and maintained for the sole purpose of the mailing list or the activity they have been provided for. You will always have the option to unsubscribe from a mailing list service at any time.

Your email address will remain confidential and no personal information will ever be disclosed to a third party without your explicit consent, unless required by law.
